The road to redesign

ApplePie Capital offers specialized and flexible franchise financing solutions, helping franchisees access the capital they need to scale and thrive. 

Having established themselves as leaders in the industry, they came to us with a goal—to refresh their online presence to present as a more modern and professional fintech brand in an increasingly competitive space. After partnering for over eight years on video projects, they sought a website redesign to showcase their services, thought leadership, and generate new leads.

THE CHALLENGE

A fresh take on ApplePie Capital

ApplePie Capital (APC) had built a strong brand presence and reputation in the industry over the years so the challenge was clear. How do we modernize the brand without losing the APC core identity and the street cred they’d already built?

Having worked on several videos for APC in the past, we understood how their illustrative style had evolved, but also saw its limitations. The goal was to create a cohesive design language that would modernize the APC brand to make them stand out, while still feeling in family with competitors in the industry.

THE RESEARCH

Crafting a modern franchise identity 

In the franchise financing world, everyone was using the same visual language, making it tough for any brand to stand out. The competition was one-dimensional, with similar aesthetics across the board—basic stock photos and conventional illustrations dominated the space. APC had also leaned heavily on illustration, but its previous style didn’t fully capture the modern touch and human connection essential to their core message of supporting franchisees and entrepreneurs.

To differentiate APC, we knew we needed to balance more engaging illustrations with authentic human-centred visuals. We set out to keep the warmth and approachability they were known for, while making sure the brand felt modern and in tune with the broader industry landscape.

To refresh APC’s visual identity, we modernized the illustration style while retaining key elements from the past. Familiar icons like the APC apple, location pins, and storefronts were reimagined in 3D for a fresh, dynamic feel. To make it all feel more modern, we expanded the colour palette with brighter greens and blues, bringing more energy to the brand.

THE MORAL OF THE STORY

From legacy to masterpiece

Sometimes you don’t need to reinvent the wheel, you just need to give it a fresh spin. For brands with legacy like APC, we didn’t discard what worked. Instead, we enhanced their existing assets. We made their illustrations, webpages, and videos more dynamic while preserving their strong brand recognition—breathing new life into what their audience already loved. 

In the Recap & Grow video we created, we weaved 3D illustrations through the storyline to create a human-centred, easy-to-follow narrative.

In the Barbie-inspired video we created, we used a giant 3D apple in a live-action-meets-space-age setting—directly pulling from the website design, bringing in live action and 3D.

In our most recent racetrack-inspired video concept for APC, we combined live action enthusiasm and playful voiceovers with clever illustrations and 3D brand elements
